Dexpistols rock

The brief EMU SP-12 and Roland TR-909 gearshots are hot. The drum programming and sequencing is so dope, the vibe reminds me of some of the Jam Master A trax. And I laughed a bit, because I’ve been making plans to acquire a microphone. Phear.

Yo, yo! New trax on the way soon. In the meanwhile, I wanted to point you to an artist I encountered that is doing some d o p e shit.

The last bit of the magic is the BOSS RC50 Loop station. this is an awesome piece of gear as it samples what ever i play through it in real time just by hitting the record button with my feet. Their is a little bit of skill involved because if you don’t press record at exactly the right time the loop can go out of sink when you try to loop it. I can record three different samples and play them together or separately and i can add to each pattern as well. So usually i put a beat on 1, some harmonies on 2 and a bass on 3. This allows me to separate the 3 core elements in my composition to change the dynamics and the way the music flows.

I could have sworn he was using something like Ableton Looper… but it’s actually this piece of hardware… Boss RC-50 Loop Station… which is even more impressive, because Ableton will fix your timing, the looper won’t.

Thank you to a friend whom I will refer to as Senor Lotus for the heads up.

Silver Medallion are a pretty awesome edgy hip-hop/electro crossover act based in Scottsdale, AZ that are kind of blowing up. They’ve opened for acts like LMFAO, the “Dyslexic Speedreaders” (Dirt Nasty, Mickey Avalon, Andre Legacy, Beardo), Lil Jon, Far East Movement, and a bunch of others I can’t remember. They also DJ some badass electro and dubstep, put out mixtapes, and are on the radio in about a dozen major markets. Not bad for an indie band.

Anyway, I dig what they are doing, and have spent some time remixing their trax. The first drop is “The Iggy,” I love the attitude of the original version, and thought the rap would work really well in a 4 to the floor electro-house banger.  Whoop, here it is:

“Scottsdale,” the first song by SM that I heard, I was like – damn this track is hot. The hilarious thing was that within 30 mins of hearing it, Oren and Carnegie rolled through where I was at.

“Gravity” is the most recent video they dropped. It was filmed in my hood – downtown Phoenix, AZ. Except they left the homeless people, crackheads, streetwalkers and Sherriff Joe’s thugs out of the video.

If you’re feeling this one, check out the New Boyz “Turnt” remix, dropped just last week, in a similar musical style.
